The iPad and porn

Today Apple announced a leap ahead in the next generation of computer tablets, which they have simply dubed the iPad.
Of course this is a given for any adult company to jump on this new device which will come out later this summer at various price ranges and configurations. Looking at the specs its quite impressive and here is a lowdown of the video playback options.

Clearly anyone in today’s Porn industry who isn’t encoding in H.264 is a bit behind and will be left in the dust. With 9.7-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit glossy widescreen Multi-Touch display with IPS technology, porn will jump off the screen in 3d at you. Ok we made that last part up, but seriously anyone who is in the know is going to adapt their content to playback on this device, its a natural extension of the web, and less of a hassle than the iPhone was to get video content on.
So I would imagine here over at Adult News Daily we will be getting quite a bit of press releases about this new product, and today we would like to share that Digital Playground has announced they will be bringing content to the iPad device when it comes out.

Playboy gets its own iPhone application in the app store

Back in April of 2008 Playboy.com launched its own iPhone compatible web site (which I cant seem to find online anymore) and now a year later they have their application in the official iTunes app store. Don’t get your hopes up yet , because Apple still does not allow nudity in its application. All the apps we have seen in the app store are quite border line with sexy clothes , bikini and women wearing lingerie.
The new $1.99 app will give you the cover of the magazine, the tablet of contents for the issue, its Playmate’s intro text and details, along with portions of text from the magazine’s monthly features, like the “Playboy Interview” and “Playboy Advisor.”
As you can see companies are jumping on applications for phones like never before.

A side note:
A funny thing we saw the other day was called “A day on the internet” and it estimates that 43 gigabytes are transferred though mobiles phones on a daily basis, which is about 9.2 million DVD’s worth of data… just for fun we included the image we found, some neat statistics.

iPhone and Android phones make up 75 percent of US web Traffic

We all knew at one point in the adult industry that mobile would take off. As someone who tinkered around with mobile since 2000 I’m glad to see this come to fruition.
admob who was recently acquired by Google has some new tasty statistics that should alert anyone in the adult industry to jump on the bandwagon and get cracking with a mobile site of your own.
With out going into to much detail I think the screen shots below from admob’s database of stats pretty much says it all.
Below is a pie chart of the current race of mobile smart phone devices and as you can early see the iPhone is the market leader in the US.

With the iPhone taking a huge 55% chunk of the pie and Android another 20%, that makes just 2 handsets or should I say OS’s leading 75% of the market share on smartphones in the US.
The iPhone is miles ahead of everyone else, but Android is quickly rising as a strong second. While Android phones managed to increase their share from 17 percent in September, 2009 to 20 percent in October, 2009, the iPhone and iPod Touch gained even more, going from 48 percent to 55 percent share. Meanwhile, during that same month the Blackberry ’s mobile Web traffic share went down from 14 percent to 12 percent, and Palm’s webOS shrank from 10 percent to 5 percent (Ouch). -Tech Crunch

The next image shows World Wide smartphone percentages with the iPhone taking 50% of the market and Nokia/Symbian OS 25%. A interesting note here is that Adroid has only a 11% share world wide compared to the 20% share it owns in the US.
So that’s a lot of mobile traffic and potential customers for your adult site, and really if you have been waiting for mobile to explode now is the time and it will only continue to grow.
With the iPhone having one of the best mobile browsers we have used, and the ability play back and stream high quality video and other smartphones having similar capabilities no wonder the explosion in web traffic has emerged from these devices.
